blogger is quite stupid. i have been logging in with my hotmail account for the longest time now, and it still fails to detect that it is not a gmail account. which i am fine with of course, since it works to my benefit (: but it's just proves how technology is and can never be perfect. I REFUSE TO CONCEDE DEFEAT TO THE POSSIBILITY THAT ROBOTS MIGHT/WILL RULE THE WORLD SOMEDAY. never!!

having said that, everyone should go to youtube and watch flight of the conchord's "the humans are dead". it's simply hilarious. i love their version of folk/stand-up comedy. i hope they come to singapore! (:

i haven't updated since uni started because uni life has been simply boring. there's really nothing tell, save for the fact that it's been one essay/assignment/project after another. the workload is beginning to pile up but i'm not complaining because after all, i've been such a bum for the past 9 months. it's good to get the ol' rusty brain working again!

other than the fact that uni life is very different from jc, i must say that it is also rather unpredictable. i hardly know what to write or what the profs expect when i do my essays so i just scribble whatever comes to mind. and most of the time, they allocate large amounts of marks to a pretty limited amount of writing space, compared to what we were exposed to in jc. as a result, it caused me to overwrite during my first ever essay test and to spill out all sorts of facts and knowledge onto my history paper that in the end probably made me look either utterly stupid and overly enthu. only the marks will tell...

when i first stepped into nus, i was rather irked by the fact that my school bookshop, or co-op as they call it, sells rather provocative and kinky items, the kind you find in the topshop store near the panties section. it was then that i realised that no adults care about the school or the way it's run. the only thing that everyone seems to be concerned with is getting their degree, so that leaves the student union or nussu as they have horrendously labelled it to run the school and to make decisions regarding school activites, events and merchandise, whether it contains explicit content or not. moreover, the rather enthusiastic arts club seems to be primarily occupied with hosting and organising clubbing sessions, which i guess allows it to literally live up to its name as a club, and also makes it seem otherwise useless in uniting the arts faculty or giving it any sort of community spirit.

the main thing that really struck me about nus was the lack of school spirit. i suppose it's difficult to inculcate any trace of love for the school unless you're forced to participate in hall activities or because you simply having an undying passion for dragonboating or some other 'ra ra' sport or student activity in the school. moreover, the campus is pretty large and the various faculties are dispersed all over the school so that makes it more difficult for people to interact. however, it doesn't explain why other universities overseas have students proudly wearing their college sweatshirts wherever they go and happily proclaiming that they belong to the school.

hmm ok. this entry has unintentionally become rather anti-nus, which is not entirely how i feel. after all, i can't deny that the professors do know their stuff and their lessons do have substance. nus is internationally recognised too so it is definitely not a bad school on the academic side. i suppose i just miss the camaraderie (yea man, war lit!) that i've always had in SC and AC.

yay ok i shall end here. a big hello to all my friends studying overseas! (: i really miss you guys, hope you're having a blast, even though the adjustment period is tough. ok i shall go disturb people in facebook now :D
